Send Us Your Questions About the RI Developmental Disabilities System

Advocates in Action is collecting questions that people have about how the RI Developmental Disabilities System works. We'll pass these along to the Division of Developmental Disabilities, but we won't share any of your contact information.

In addition, the questions we receive will help our organization identify the issues and topic areas that people want to learn about. We'll take what you send us, and use it to create consumer-friendly resources that provide the answers and information you're looking for. AinA will post these materials on our website, and the Division will share them directly with individuals, families and others who have similar questions about the DD System.

At Advocates in Action we believe that information is power. As Rhode Island continues to embrace a Person-Centered philosophy in the way it supports individuals who have an Intellectual/Developmental Disability, we also know that this information needs to be accessible before people can use it.

We all have different ways of learning and our own unique styles of communication. And we have a right to make our own decisions about how we want to live our life. Our goal in collecting your questions and creating resources to answer them is to provide the information will people need to do so.

Being "person-centered" isn't really complicated. In essence, it means being able to answer 2 questions: "How do I want to live my life?" and "What do I need to do that?"

As you think about your answers to these questions, we hope you'll allow us to help.

Despite what you might have heard in the past, or any doubts you have about speaking-up, there aren't any "stupid questions". The fact is, if there's something YOU want to know about the RI DD System, you're not alone. But you might be the only person who's able, willing, or in a position to ask. We really hope you do!
