Advocates in Action: End the Negative and Make Respect the New "R-Word"

In June, 2010, our state voted to change the name of the "Department of Mental Health, Retardation & Hospitals" (MHRH)

to

"The Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities & Hospitals" (BHDDH)

Advocates in Action received a citation from the Governor of Rhode Island because of our "End the R-Word" campaign!

"Names Hurt, Too" was Rhode Island's 15th Annual Statewide Self-Advocacy Conference.

More than 500 pepole came to the "Names Hurt, Too", making it our biggest statewide conference since we began hosting them in 1994!
