Rhode Island's 2014 Statewide Self-Advocacy Conference is called Power UP.

Power UP takes place on Thursday October 30th at the Crown Plaza in Warwick and EVERYONE IS INVITED!!!

This theme of this year is about being empowered and empowering others. Join people who have a developmental disability, families, support staff, students, teachers, advocates and allies to talk, learn and share about what it means to be EMPOWERED.

SOME OF THE TOPICS FOR THE DAY INCLUDE: Informed Decision Making, Real Jobs, Voting, Public Transportation, Hiring and Supervising Staff, Assertiveness, Being Safe, Budgeting, Interpersonal Skills, Individual Support Plans, Tokenism, How to Say "NO", Respect, Voices and Choices, Personal Stories of Empowerment.

Power UP is hosted by Advocates in Action Rhode Island, in partnership with the Center for Excellence & Advocacy, and made possible with the generous support of our Sponsors. Registration is due by Thursday, October 16th.




The cost to attend the Conference Day (9am-5pm) is $30 PER PERSON and $20 reduced rate for support staff.

The price for Dinner Dance & Costume Party tickets (6pm-10pm) is $35 PER PERSON.

The cost for High School/Transition student, family and teachers to attend the conference day (9am-5pm) is $20 PER PERSON

Please Note: Everyone who is attending the conference must register and send in a separate form so we receive one form per person. If you are coming to the conference and bringing a support person with you, you should send us a registration form and your support person should also send us a form. Please do not use just one form to register both of you! Thanks for your help with this!



PRESENTER PROPOSALS

Presentation Proposals are due by Thursday, October 2nd.

This year's conference is about being empowered and empowering others. In keeping with this theme, we are seeking one hour long presentations for both the morning and afternoon that will help conference attendees learn about a variety of topics including the following:


Informed Decision Making
Real Jobs
Voting
Public Transportation
Hiring and Supervising Staff
Assertiveness
Being Safe
Budgeting
Interpersonal Skills
Individual Support Plans
Tokenism
How to Say "NO"
Respect
Voices and Choices
Personal Stories of Empowerment
and More!

If your proposal is accepted, 4 of your presenters can register for the conference day at the reduced rate of $20 per person. The fee for additional presenters is $30 per person. Presenters who will be attending the conference MUST COMPLETE A SEPARATE REGISTRATION FORM. You will be notified by October 9th if your presentation was accepted. Presenters who register at the full price before the 9th will receive a $10 per person refund.

2014 SELF-ADVOCACY AWARDS

Nominations are due by Thursday, September 25th.

We invite you to nominate individuals for the the 2014 Self-Advocacy Awards. This is a great opportunity to let Self-Advocates and friends who support the RI Self-Advocacy Movement know how much you appreciate them! There are 3 awards to nominate people for and detailed information on the nomination from.

CLICK HERE to download the nomination form with additional information. Winners will invited to attend the conference day for free where they will receive their during a Luncheon Awards Ceremony. If the person you nominate wins, you will also be invited to attend the conference for free and to help present the award at the ceremony.


HOTEL RESERVATION FORM

Hotel Registrations are due Thursday, October 9th

CLICK HERE to download the HOTEL RESERVATION FORM if you plan to stay overnight at the Crowne Plaza. The dance party ends at 10:00pm, but many attendees make a night of it and stay at the hotel after the party. The Crowne Plaza also has a pool and weight room available that guests may use during their stay!

We have reserved a limited block of hotel rooms for conference attendees at the reduced rate of $124 PER NIGHT. Use this reservation form if you want to reserve one of them.
