Get ready for RI's 21st Annual Statewide Self-Advocacy Conference and
join us on Thursday, October 27th for Nothing About Us Without Us! This year's event, which will
be held at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick, is about INCLUSION and EQUALITY for people who have an
intellectual/ developmentaldisability. Inclusionmeansthatthosewhohaveadisability should live, work,
and spend their time in the community, alongside those who don’t. Equality means, hey, we are all
more alike than different, so let's respect, value and accept everyone!
At Nothing About Us Without Us, we are expecting more than 325 youth and adults who have an
intellectual/developmental disability, families, support staff and allies to come together for a
day of listening, learning, sharing, and fun. Some of the issues that will be discussed at this
year’s event include: Person-Centered Planning, Real Jobs, Community Integration, Relationships,
Residential Options, Transportation, Ending the R-Word, Voting and more. Attendees will be inspired
and empowered!
We all need some support at times, but everyone should still be in charge of their own lives. Having a disability label doesn't change that. Every person is important, and we all have unique gifts and ways that we can give back and be a part of the community. Don't let having a disability make you or anyone else think that isn't true!
These are just a few of the powerful messages you will hear at Nothing About Us Without Us through the 18 different workshop presentations, vendor displays, resource tables, the conference Story Wall, a musical keynote address, and other experiences that will take place during the day.
In addition, we invite you to stay and party with us after the conference day at our costume dinner dance. Wear your most amazing costume for a chance to win a prize in this year's dance party raffle! Everyone is welcome to attend just the conference day or the dinner dance as separate events. However, as the majority of attendees from previous years will tell you, pretty much ALL of Nothing About Us Without Us is going to be an experience you won’t want to miss.
We hope to see you there!
