Partners in Policymaking

Advocates in Action developed the Leadership Series to help people learn how to speak up for themselves and make a difference.

The Series is a 10 month training program that teaches people who have a developmental disabilty, along with their support staff and family members, some of the basic building blocks of how to be a Leader. Prior to hosting the Leadership Series, Advocates in Action developed and hosted "Partners in Policymaking Rhode Island" with the support of PAL, the RI Division of Devlopmental Disabilities (BHDDH) and the RI DD Council.

Partners-RI was modeled on the national PARTNERS IN POLICYMAKING program developed by the Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities.

Advocates in Action and PAL were able to offer an annual Partners in Policymaking-RI class from 1996-2001 with support from the RI DD Council and the RI Division of Developmental Disabilities. Here are some video slides shows from those years:
